Blue Pine Designs, a company birthed from the fascination with the beauty of what we call Blue Pine, not a species of tree but the result of damage caused by the Western Pine Beetle.
What would normally be discarded or burned for firewood is now sought after (at least by me!) for its unusual beauty and character. Intrigued with this source of nature’s splendor, mated with years of woodworking and finishing experience, brings forth one of a kind furnishings that can be enjoyed for generations.
My experience began back in the 1960s and 70s when I first saw this unusual wood in Central Oregon. I remember visiting a place called Russell’s Industries in La Pine where I could spend hours admiring their craftsmanship and unique furniture. When I moved to Central Oregon in the late 90s, Russell’s was no longer in business. This led me to fill the gap and begin building unusual furniture and cabinets and creating my own designs that have become the hallmark of Blue Pine Designs.
I graduated from the Auto Upholstery Institute in 1976 and have worked for and owned several upholstery shops over the years. I also cut timber for several years in the 80s, then sprayed high-end cabinets for Beaver Coach, Inc., worked as a draftsman in a furniture factory, and even played some with an airbrush. These strong and varied experiences coupled with an artistic eye make for boundless possibilities of what can be built.
A few years ago we purchased a portable sawmill so we can custom cut logs for specific uses. We can even use trees from your own property! We can fell the tree, and then mill it on site or haul back to our shop. Then we can dry it in our kiln and machine it to what we need. We are not limited to the Blue Pine either (see Wood Selection). We also have other species here like Juniper, Maple and one of my favorites, Black Walnut.
Blue Pine Designs specializes in creating custom living quarters for horse and recreational trailers or RV's. We use a finish process that brings out the character of the wood and is incredibly durable.
Blue Pine Designs also offers a variety of wood choices such as Juniper, Walnut, Cherry, Maple, and inlays using Mappa, Maple Burl or other woods that you would like.
We also build custom furnishings for home or office. Create a rustic setting with our fine furnishings.
